WASHINGTON – The 43rd ACLI Capital Challenge road race Wednesday raised a record $225,000 for Junior Achievement USA.

“We always enjoy crowning the fastest leaders in Washington D.C.,” said American Council of Life Insurers President and CEO David Chaven. “But the real winners are the 4.6 million kids nationwide who participate in Junior Achievement. Thanks to our sponsors and the more than 660 people who participated in this year’s race, the life insurance industry is able to help Junior Achievement’s financial education initiatives for students in all 50 states.”

The three-mile race in Anacostia Park featured members of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the federal government, the Washington press corps and other guests.

Representative Greg Casar (D-Texas) and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.) were the fastest male and female members of Congress. Rep. Casar defended his title from last year, finishing in 20:34, 1:34 faster than any other member of Congress.

Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.) was the fastest male senator and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va) was the fastest female senator. Other members of Congress participating included Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Reps. James Comer (R-Ky.), Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.), Mike Levin (D-Calif.), Jim Himes (D-Conn.), Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) and Eugene Vindman (D-Va.).

Sen. Tillis’s team was the fastest in the Senate, while Rep. Levin’s team was the fastest in the House.

Jason Kearns of the U.S. International Trade Commission captained the fastest team from the executive branch. Judge Jeffrey Arbeit of the U.S, Tax Court captained the fastest team from the judicial branch. The fastest electronic media team was captained by Tamara Keith of NPR. The fastest print media team was captained by Mike Dang of The New York Times. The same New York Times team, named News That’s Fit to Sprint, was the fastest team overall.

Among the other participants, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson ran in her fifth ACLI Capital Challenge, while Solicitor General of the United States Dean Sauer ran in his first.

Jack Butler from National Review was the fastest overall runner, finishing in 15:45. Emma Kumer from the Washington Post was the fastest female, finishing in 17:52.

Former American marathon and half-marathon record holder Keira D’Amato served as the race’s celebrity runner. She set off the air horn to start the race, then joined the race from the back of the pack and ran to support the participants.
