We are looking for a senior level professional to join our Policy & Legal team. This person will be responsible for providing accounting expertise and advice in assigned areas of Statutory and GAAP accounting, financial & investments reporting and reinsurance. This individual will work with cross-functional teams of internal and external subject matter experts, lobbyists and other professionals. Will also serve as representative to Accounting committees and task forces; facilitate the development of committee positions and recommendations for ACLI policy on legislative and regulatory matters in assigned areas. Will also assist in planning, coordinating and implementing ACLI advocacy efforts before the NAIC in support of ACLI policy on assigned legislative and regulatory matters.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Mathematics or related field and a minimum of ten years of life insurance accounting experience. Graduate degree and/or Certified Public Accountants designation preferred. Insurance product line experience, or regulator experience preferred. Must be skillful in analyzing majority and minority views held by member company staff, key regulators and committee members on various subjects to facilitate consensus in policy formulation. Extensive subject matter knowledge of the broad range of Statutory accounting, including investment accounting, financial reporting and/or working with regulators. Skill in analysis of proposed policy, legislative and regulatory changes that might affect the industry. Strong communication skills that include the ability to define and refine issues into a manageable form that can be dealt with by committee members. Considerable ability to transform issues and arguments into accurate written documents and presentations that are understandable and persuasive. The Director of Member Relations is a strategic leader within the Office of Corporate Relations, responsible for overseeing membership dues administration, database infrastructure, and governance support systems. This role requires technical competency, relationship management skills, and analytical expertise to ensure effective membership operations and provide data-informed insights to senior leadership. The Director serves as the primary business owner for membership functions within iMIS and collaborates across departments to meet association-wide needs. Key responsibilities include leading the semi-annual dues calculation for a multi-million dollar association budget, coordinating with Finance on invoice generation and collections, managing dues formula updates, and resolving complex dues disputes. The Director also designs and delivers regular membership analytics, manages the annual committee nomination process, and supports governance-related projects. As the business owner of the iMIS membership management system, the Director works with IT and other stakeholders to define requirements, coordinate system enhancements, and maintain data governance protocols.
The role requires 7-10 years of progressive experience in membership operations, preferably in trade associations or nonprofits, and at least 4 years of supervisory experience. Advanced technical skills in Excel, query writing, AMS/CRM platforms, and data visualization are required, along with strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities. The work environment is hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week in the office and occasional evening or weekend work during peak periods.
