News Release

WASHINGTON – The next chapter of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) will be led by David Chavern, an experienced association leader with a track record of driving progress and growth. Chavern comes to ACLI from his role as President and CEO of the Consumer Brands Association. He will succeed Susan Neely, who announced her retirement from association leadership earlier this year. Chavern will join ACLI on September 1.

“We are thrilled to welcome David as the new President and CEO of ACLI,” said Paul Quaranto, ACLI Board Chairman, and Chairman, CEO and President of Boston Mutual. “David brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and experience to this role. We are confident that under his guidance, ACLI will continue to thrive and effectively advocate for our industry and the millions of Americans who rely on life insurance and financial protection products.”

With a distinguished career spanning 30 years, Chavern’s transformational leadership approach has guided his successful tenures as CEO of the Consumer Brands Association and the News Media Alliance where he navigated complex landscapes to drive advocacy, organizational management, and strategic planning. Previously, he held leadership roles at the United States Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the Center for Advanced Technology & Innovation.

Over the past six years, ACLI has experienced significant growth and organizational improvements that have led to notable achievements in advocacy, industry collaboration, and public awareness, reinforcing the life insurance industry’s role as a leading voice for financial security.

“It is an honor to be chosen to lead an industry that makes a real difference in the personal and financial well-being of American families and businesses," said Chavern. “I have been impressed by ACLI's remarkable transformation, and I am eager to guide the association into its next chapter so more policymakers understand the true impact of the life insurance industry on people's lives.”

Susan Neely expressed her gratitude and confidence in ACLI's future. “I am grateful to the ACLI Board of Directors for the opportunity to lead this organization over the past six years. Our accomplishments in support of families, workers, and retirees have reinforced my strong belief in the ability of associations like ACLI to unify members and address society-level challenges. David is the perfect choice to be the next CEO of ACLI. I am excited to see David take the helm and continue the important work advancing that mission,” Neely said.

The American Council of Life Insurers is home to 275 of the nation’s most trusted and iconic household financial protection companies whose products and services help 90 million American families achieve financial security.
