News Release

WASHINGTON – The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) elected American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) President and CEO Susan Neely as GFIA President during its general assembly in Santiago, Chile.

GFIA is an international, non-profit association whose members include trade associations representing life, health, property and casualty and reinsurance companies around the globe. Through its 40 member associations and one observer association, GFIA represents the interests of insurers and reinsurers in 67 countries. These companies account for around 89% of total insurance premiums worldwide.

Neely’s term as GFIA President is for two years. She succeeds Don Forgeron, President and CEO of the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

“I am honoured to be elected president of GFIA and look forward to building upon Don Forgeron’s success in leading the organization the past two years,” Neely said. “Don and other leaders have significantly enhanced GFIA’s mission to present a unified voice on global insurance issues. We will leverage this momentum in 2023 with our study exploring protection gaps for consumers and developing policy recommendations based on its findings.

“Insurers make important contributions to societies and economies around the world through the protection they provide and the investments they make. Together through GFIA, we will advance solutions to the risk protection challenges countries are facing and work with global policymakers and standard setters who are seeking ways to help their people thrive.”
