News Release

Washington, D.C. (May 15, 2012) — One of the premier springtime events in the nation’s capital, the annual ACLI Capital Challenge, will take place on May 16 at Anacostia Park in Washington, D.C. Proceeds from the event will support the Wounded Warrior Project, which is dedicated to raising awareness and enlisting public aid for the needs of injured service members.

The official starter of the three-mile team race, which is sponsored by the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), is Meb Keflezighi, who won the Silver Medal in the 2004 Olympics marathon and won the 2012 U.S. Olympics marathon trial.

Teams from the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government and each military service, as well as from the news media, will again participate in this stellar event. Of special note, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), who has participated in every Capital Challenge since it began in 1981, will again lead a team in the 2012 event.

"The ACLI Capital Challenge offers the Capitol Hill community a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause; our wounded warriors. ACLI and our member companies are honored to donate the proceeds to the men and women who risked their lives to protect the freedoms we all enjoy," said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne.

ACLI member company sponsors include MetLife, ING, John Hancock, MassMutual, New York Life, Transamerica, Prudential, RGA, Western and Southern Financial Group, and Nationwide.
