Washington, D.C., (May 02, 2011) – The 30th annual Capital Challenge invitational three-mile team race will take place May 4 in East Potomac Park at 8 am. Proceeds from the event will support D.C. Special Olympics.

This year’s special guest is Dick Beardsley, an accomplished athlete, author, inspirational speaker, TV commentator and radio announcer. He holds the title as the fifth fastest American marathon runner of all time.

Teams from the news media and legislative, executive and judicial branches of government will participate in this premier Washington, D.C. running race. Of special note is the participation once again of Indiana Senator Richard Lugar, who has run in every race since the Capital Challenge’s inception.

“Bringing runners together in a spirited event from the Washington D.C. community is a welcome retreat from our busy lives,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “The Capital Challenge represents a special endeavor for our association. We are honored to donate the proceeds to D.C. Special Olympics.”

ACLI member company sponsors include AEGON USA, ING, John Hancock, MetLife, New York Life, Northwestern Mutual, Principal Financial Group, Prudential, RGA, Swiss Re, and the Western & Southern Financial Group.
