Mark Mullin of Transamerica Elected ACLI Chairman
Washington, D.C. (October 9, 2017) — The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), whose member companies provide financial and retirement security to 75 million American families, elected its chairman, officers and board of directors at the ACLI 2017 Annual Conference.
Mark Mullin, president and CEO of Transamerica, was elected as chairman. Mr. Mullin succeeds Peter Schaefer, president and CEO of Hannover Re US, who will now serve as ACLI immediate past chair.
“The life insurance industry will be well-served by Mark’s industry experience and leadership,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “I look forward to working with him and the entire board in support of the industry and the consumers who rely on us for their financial and retirement security needs.”
ACLI also elected JoAnn Martin, chairman and CEO of Ameritas, to ACLI’s chairman-elect position. Ms. Martin will become chairman during the annual conference in October 2018. ACLI’s chairman-elect designate post was awarded to Daniel J. Houston, chairman, president and CEO of Principal Financial Group. Mr. Houston will become chairman in October 2019.
“Every day, life insurers fulfill promises that help consumers cope financially after the loss of a loved one, provide retirees with a personal pension from annuities and help people age with dignity and comfort,” said Governor Kempthorne. “Under Mark’s and the board’s leadership, ACLI is well-prepared to work in state, federal and international forums to educate policymakers about the important private-sector safety net the industry’s products and services provide.”
The chairman and the board of directors set policy and guide the actions of the association, which represents the life insurance and retirement security industry in Washington, D.C., the states and internationally.
