News Release

American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne issued the following statement today in response to Hurricane Irma:

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2017) — “For the second time in less than a month, a hurricane has brought devastation, suffering and loss of life to our nation. We join all Americans in expressing our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones affected by Hurricane Irma and those who are still recovering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

“In this time of turmoil and uncertainty, America’s life insurance companies are prepared to help those affected by these horrific storms and deliver on the promise of financial and retirement security made to policyholders.

“On behalf of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), I will be reaching out to the governors and insurance commissioners in the areas impacted by Hurricane Irma. ACLI resources will be at their disposal to help address any life insurance related issues that may arise as a result of this disaster.

“In addition, we are posting information on our website that may be of assistance to policyholders affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected by these storms.”
