Washington D.C., (May 14, 2015) — Peter Schaefer, president and CEO of Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re US), received the 2015 American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Forum 500’s Distinguished Service Award at the Forum 500 CEO Leadership Retreat in Washington, D.C.
The award is presented to an individual whose work has greatly contributed to the life insurance industry, especially to the small and medium-sized life insurance companies which the Forum 500 represents.
“Peter Schaefer’s work on behalf of the industry exemplifies distinguished service,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “He has skillfully and enthusiastically represented the industry in meetings with legislators and regulators in the states and Washington, D.C. Peter’s actions have earned him the respect and admiration of his industry peers, who have chosen to honor him with this well-deserved award.”
Mr. Schaefer joined Hannover Re US on January 1, 1999 as chief actuary and became president and CEO in 2001. Prior to joining Hannover Re US, he was vice president and actuary with The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company where he had responsibility for product pricing, reinsurance and experience analysis.
Mr. Schaefer is an active participant in numerous actuarial and life insurance industry committees. He currently serves on ACLI’s Board of Directors and will become its chairman in October 2016. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Mr. Schaefer graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1982 with a B.S. in Economics.
