Washington D.C., (June 3, 2014) — Thomas E. Henning, chairman, president and CEO of Assurity Life Insurance Company, received the 2014 American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Forum 500’s Distinguished Service Award at the Forum 500 CEO Leadership Retreat in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
The award is presented to an individual whose work has greatly contributed to the life insurance industry, especially to the small and medium-sized life insurance companies which the Forum 500 represents.

His commitment as a representative of the Forum 500 and ACLI has been exemplary. He is a superb choice for this year’s Distinguished Service Award,” said ACLI President & CEO Dirk Kempthorne.
Mr. Henning is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, as well as the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He also has completed the Wharton School’s Effective Management Program. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.
Mr. Henning has been active in a variety of industry groups including recent service on the ACLI Board of Directors. He currently serves as chair of the ACLI PAC. He is also a former chairman of ACLI’s Forum 500 section. Mr. Henning is a two-time past president of the Nebraska Insurance Federation. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, and a member of CEO, an organization for former leaders of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
Mr. Henning serves on the board of Nelnet Inc. a publicly traded company and the advisory board of Lincoln Industries, the nation’s largest plating company. Mr. Henning is also a member of the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka and serves as chairman of the board’s risk oversight committee.
Mr. Henning is also active in many civic organizations, including serving as past chair of the University of Nebraska Foundation. He continues to serve on the foundation’s investment committee and its donor advisory board. Mr. Henning is chair of the Lincoln Chamber Economic Development Corporation and co-chair of the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development. He also serves on the steering committee of Lincoln’s Vision 2015 group and on the University of Nebraska’s Innovation Campus Governing Board.
Mr. Henning and his wife, Candy, have two grown children, Cassie and Maddie, and one grandchild, William Thomas.
