Protective Life's John D. Johns Elected as ACLI Chair
Washington, D.C. (October 28, 2013) — The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), whose member companies provide financial and retirement security to 75 million American families, today elected its 2014 Chairman, officers and new members of the Board of Directors at its Annual Conference.
Elected as Chairman was John D. Johns, Chairman, President and CEO of Protective Life Corporation. Mr. Johns will serve as Chairman for one year. He succeeds James T. Morris, Chairman and CEO of Pacific Life Insurance Company, who will serve as ACLI Immediate Past Chairman.
“Johnny Johns is an exceptional leader in the industry. We’re fortunate to have him as our chairman this year,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “Through his service on ACLI’s Board and many committees, Johnny Johns has earned the respect of his peers and demonstrated a strong command of the issues affecting the industry. His experience and leadership will be true assets to ACLI, life insurance companies and policyholders.”
ACLI also elected Roger W. Crandall Chairman, President and CEO of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), to its Chairman-Elect position. Mr. Crandall will assume the chairmanship during the Annual Conference in October 2014. ACLI’s Chairman-Elect Designate post was awarded to Deanna Mulligan, President and CEO of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Ms. Mulligan will become ACLI Chairman in October 2015.
The Chairman and Board of Directors set policy and guide the actions of the association, which represents the life insurance industry in Washington, D.C., the states and internationally.
