Swiss Re's Carlos Boelsterli to Represent ACLI
Washington, D.C., (April 1, 2011) - Carlos Boelsterli, senior vice president, Swiss Re, will represent the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) at the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES), the umbrella organization of Latin American insurance associations, ACLI President & CEO Dirk Kempthorne announced.
“I’m pleased that Mr. Boelsterli will represent ACLI at FIDES and I know he will continue the strong tradition of business diplomacy among insurance groups in the Americas. ACLI is a founding member of FIDES, which was created in 1946 to advocate for open, private insurance markets throughout the Western Hemisphere. Mr. Boelsteri, who has unique experience and expertise in Latin America, is a perfect choice to speak on behalf of ACLI and our member companies,” Kempthorne said.
ACLI, through its membership in FIDES, has been a leading advocate for opening insurance markets in Latin America to private competition. Since the late 1980s, virtually all Latin American countries have liberalized their insurance markets.
A Swiss Colombian native, Mr. Boelsterli joined Swiss Re in 1989 and began working for various marketing units within the Latin American Department. In 1991 he was transferred to Colombia and became responsible for Swiss Re’s business in Colombia for almost five years. He returned to Zurich in 1996 to assume responsibility for several South American countries. He is currently located in Swiss Re's Americas headquarters located in Armonk, NY.
The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) is a Washington, D.C.-based trade association with more than 300 legal reserve life insurer and fraternal benefit society member companies operating in the United States. ACLI members represent more than 90 percent of the assets and premiums of the life insurance and annuity industry. In addition to life insurance and annuities, ACLI member companies offer pensions, 401(k) and other retirement plans, long-term care and disability income insurance, and reinsurance.
