The economic downturn has had an impact on the stock prices of all publically traded companies, including life insurers. A company’s stock price is not an indication of their ability to to pay claims. Life insurers are required to hold enough assets to pay all expected claims, regardless of their stock price. In fact today, life insurers hold approximately three times the capital required by law.
