Carrie Haughawout

Carrie Haughawout is Senior Vice President of Life Insurance and Regulatory Policy at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). In her role, she is responsible for overseeing actuarial issues and advising on other regulatory policy issues that affect life insurers. Haughawout also serves as a policy advisor and liaison for ACLI with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

As a former insurance regulator, Haughawout is experienced in taking overarching insurance policy concerns and distilling them for industry and regulators alike to work together on prudent public policy solutions.

Previously, Haughawout was a regulator at the Ohio Department of Insurance for almost thirteen years. As deputy for the department, she had wide ranging responsibilities, including financial oversight, market conduct, and product and actuarial services. She began her career there just as the affordable care act was passed and oversaw the department’s efforts to operationalize the new law. Her career path included several years in the Ohio General Assembly, including working for two different speakers of the house, and the state’s largest business trade – the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

Haughawout is a graduate of the University of Dayton and lives in Dublin, Ohio with her husband, three children and a beloved, but ornery, puppy.
