ACLI Lauds Selection of Iowa Governor to Ambassador Post in China

ACLI President & CEO Dirk Kempthorne issued the following statement on the announcement that President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Iowa Governor Terry Branstad as the next U.S. ambassador to China:

Washington, D.C., (December 8, 2016) – “President-elect Donald Trump has tapped an experienced leader with strong international credentials in Iowa Governor Terry Branstad to serve as the nation’s next ambassador to China.

“ACLI warmly welcomes the planned nomination of Governor Branstad to this very important ambassadorial position.

“With 432 life insurance companies licensed to do business in his state, Governor Branstad knows very well the vital role life insurers can play in the lives of Iowans, Americans overall and families throughout the world. Life insurers’ solutions promote self-reliance, reducing government reliance. This is growing more important as people are living longer than ever before, fueling the growth of aging societies around the world. Governor Branstad’s understanding and appreciation for the private-sector’s retirement-security solutions will serve him well in his new role in China and on the international stage.”
