The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), Insurance Europe, the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) and the American Insurance Association (AIA) issued the following statement today on the resumption of negotiations between the United States and the European Union on a “covered agreement” on insurance and reinsurance.

Washington, D.C., (Sept. 20, 2016) -- “In anticipation of upcoming negotiations of a covered agreement on insurance and reinsurance between the European Union and United States, the American Council of Life Insurers, Insurance Europe, the Reinsurance Association of America and the American Insurance Association wish to restate our continued support for negotiation of an agreement, which we believe has the potential for a win-win for consumers and competitive markets on both sides of the Atlantic.

“The insurance regulatory and supervisory dialogue between the U.S. and EU is longstanding and important to both sides given the size of our bilateral trade in insurance and reinsurance. We welcome negotiators working in consultation with supervisors, and we are ready to engage to best support their efforts.”
