Julie A Spiezio
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Julie Spiezio is Senior Vice President & General Counsel at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). She has represented ACLI member companies in various capacities since 1985. She began her legal career in St. Louis, then in New York City. She has successfully represented the industry on a wide variety of subjects, including risk classification and underwriting, long-term care, reinsurance, retained asset accounts, unfair trade practices, life insurance and annuity product disclosure, accelerated benefits, and viatical and life settlements.

Spiezio leads the OGC’s Insurance Regulation Division which, in addition to senior legal staff, includes the organization’s Economic Research and Library divisions. She has acted as the organization’s lead lobbyist in a number of states, including New York and Pennsylvania. She has advocated the industry’s views to ABC’s Nightline, The Wall Street Journal, and People Magazine, as well as various trade press, and has published a number of articles on long-term care insurance and HIV/AIDS issues. Spiezio is the ACLI Office of the General Counsel’s (OGC) point person on federal financial services reform and leads ACLI’s Dodd-Frank Act implementation efforts.

A native New Yorker, Spiezio received a bachelor's degree in history from Marquette University and a law degree from Saint Louis University, and has studied business management at Johns Hopkins University.
