The official portrait of Dirk Kempthorne, the nation’s 49th Secretary of the Interior and ACLI’s President and CEO, was unveiled at an Interior Department ceremony on June 30.
Governor Kempthorne, who served from 2006 until 2009, appeared with his successor, Secretary Ken Salazar, among numerous other dignitaries.
During his tenure, Governor Kempthorne resurrected the department’s tradition of responsible stewardship of public lands. In this role, he managed 20 percent of U.S. lands with an annual budget of $18 billion.
Prior to joining the Department, he served as Governor of Idaho, a member of the U.S. Senate and as Mayor of Boise.
