NAIC Approves Model Prohibiting Misleading Senior Designations

Washington, D.C (Sept. 25, 2008) — The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), AARP, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and The American College today lauded the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for adopting the Model Regulation on the Use of Senior Specific Certifications and Professional Designations in the Sale of Life Insurance and Annuities. The model is designed to protect consumers from deceptive sales practices by prohibiting the use of misleading senior-specific certifications and designations in the sale of life insurance and annuities.

The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) is a Washington, D.C.-based trade association whose 353 member companies account for 93 percent of the life insurance industry’s total assets in the United States, 93 percent of life insurance premiums and 94 percent of annuity considerations.
