Optional Federal Charter

Overview

Bringing efficiency and modernization to the insurance regulatory system continues to be a top priority for life insurers. The current state-based system is characterized by inefficiencies and a lack of uniformity among the states that have resulted in administrative burdens for companies and sellers, higher costs, and inconsistent safeguards and product offerings for consumers.

ACLI Position

Life insurers support strong regulation--it benefits consumers, companies and producers alike. In promoting uniformity and strong, nationwide consumer protections, ACLI supports an optional federal charter for life insurers that is at least as strong as the best of the state system of regulation.
