A provision or "rider" can be added to a policy to give you the option to purchase additional insurance without taking a medical exam or having to furnish evidence of insurability. Other riders provide further benefits, including:

  • An accelerated death benefit, which allows you, under certain circumstances, to receive the proceeds of your life insurance policy before you die.
  • An accidental death benefit, which pays an additional benefit in case of death resulting from an accident.
  • A waiver of premium for disability that means if you become totally disabled for a specified period of time, you don't have to pay premiums for the duration of the disability.
