ACLI represents 353 member companies operating in the United States before federal and state policymakers, insurance departments, and the courts. ACLI is governed by a Board of Directors--elected by its membership--which sets policy and guides the actions of the association.

ACLI member companies are the leading providers of financial and retirement security products covering individual and business markets. They offer life insurance; annuities; pensions, including 401(k)s; long-term care insurance; disability income insurance; reinsurance; and other retirement and financial protection products. ACLI members account for:

• 93 percent of the industry's total assets.
• 93 percent of life insurance premiums.
• 94 percent of annuity considerations.
